Difference between suction stroke and lift head of water pump

Pump self-priming capacity is also called maximum self suction height.It is the maximum height at which the water is pumped (the vertical distance between the pump and the the liquid surface to be pumped) without fill in water into the pump tunnel. General water level is lower than the location of the pump, you need to pump self-priming capacity.For example ,if we need to pump water from a river ,we will not plan pipe first,so we need a pump which has self-priming capacity.
