Difference between suction stroke and lift head of water pump

Pump self-priming capacity is also called maximum self suction height.It is the maximum height at which the water is pumped (the vertical distance between the pump and the the liquid surface to be pumped) without fill in water into the pump tunnel.
General water level is lower than the location of the pump, you need to pump self-priming capacity.For example ,if we need to pump water from a river ,we will not plan pipe first,so we need a pump which has self-priming capacity. Or we need to pump some corrosive liquid,we can not fill water into the water pump tunnel.
Some centrifugal water pumps do not have self-priming capacity,they need to fill in water at first time of using.
The pump lift is the height that pump can lift water up.We usually expressed in H,the the unit is meter. The lift of the centrifugal pump is based on the center line of the impeller.The lift Consists of two parts,first is the vertical height from the center line of the pump impeller to the surface of the water source.it called suction head.the second part is the vertical height from the center of the pump impeller to the surface of the water pool.that is the height of the water pump to pressure the water.So water pump lift is suction lift + prssure lift.The rated head is the pump itself can produce the head,The utility model does not contain the loss head caused by the frictional resistance of the pipeline water flow.

Pressure fluctuation at the vaneless space and vanes passages is one of the most important problems for the stable operation of a pump turbine. The fluctuation appears in any operating condition.
